Scheherazade – Making of

Here’s a look at the process for the third illustration in the series, and the first one I did – The Young Prince and Princess.

I started by listening to the music, reading about the piece and gathering the documentation. You can find most of the references in my folder on the Rijks Museum online portal (they are an amazing resource, with hi-res images). Then I moved on to pencil sketches – scanned them, refined them, took a few false starts, then finally convinced myself to move the couple into the foreground :). I think I liked him better with his eyes closes…
