The last of Inktober 2018
Inktober is over. I had way more fun than I expected with these and I have acquired some approximative knowledge of inks and brushes. I will be colouring some of the images… so… expect more :).

Saturday Sketches – Inktober 2018
Week four. Who knows, maybe next year… I can plan ahead and… make an actual graphic novel? Because, it turns out, no matter how little time I have and how much I travel, I can still fit in one ink page.

Scheherazade – Making of
Here’s a look at the process for the third illustration in the series, and the first one I did – The Young Prince and Princess. I started by listening to the music, reading about the piece and gathering the documentation. You can find most of the references in my folder on the Rijks Museum online…

I’m yet to find a way of integrating this style into illustrations or comics. It looks a lot like mezzotint, and I may be exorcising some demons from way back in my uni days, when I could never get the technique right. The reference was a Camillo Balossini photo.

Saturday Sketches
Today is (mostly) black-and white day! Turns out I didn’t save the photo ref for this one :(, so google images can’t help me with the credit. References from SketchDaily for these two. Reference from Shorpy, my best guess is that it was another Timothy H. O’Sullivan photo? Oh, and an obvious Mike Mignola style-attempt.

This time around…. watercolour! Not really, but close enough. Brush by Kyle T Webster :).
